A late nineteenth century retangular wooden box with hinged lid, divided lift out tray and lovely marquetry design. The lock mechanism is working and the key is included. This may originally have been a sewing box, but could be used for storing other types of supplies.
The base wood of the box appears to be pine and the exterior features lovely rose wood veneer and striking orange colored inlay. The marquetry on the lid is of wild roses.
This box is completely functional but does show signs of wear and has some missing and cracked veneer along with light scratches and scuffs. Please see all photos.
